News requests and images
Refreshing an edition can send your selected topics or search terms to Bing News, with publisher feeds and Google News as additional or fallback sources. Opening or preparing a story can request its publisher page, and enabled story images are requested from their hosts. Those services receive the query or requested URL and ordinary network information such as your IP address. These requests are necessary to retrieve current news; local generation does not make news retrieval offline. Image loading can be disabled in settings.
Your edition and questions
Topics, reading preferences, saved stories, collections and cached editions are stored locally. When you ask for a rewrite or an article answer, the selected on-device model receives article text locally. Questions are not sent to the publisher or a cloud language model. Source links remain available, and generated writing should be checked against them. Following an external source link opens that website under its own privacy practices.
Read aloud and optional voices
You can choose installed Apple voices or optional Supertonic natural voices. Downloading natural voices is an explicit action after reviewing their license; it contacts Hugging Face and its file-delivery hosts with normal network information, including your IP address and the requested files. After the download, speech generation runs on this device. Document text, article text and practice responses are not uploaded to a speech service. If a natural voice is unavailable, the app reports the problem; using an Apple voice is an explicit choice rather than an automatic substitution. Voice selection is stored locally, and downloaded voices can be removed in settings. Voice and language availability varies.
On-device models
Apple Intelligence, LFM2.5-1.2B-Instruct QAD and Gemma 4 are separate model options. Availability depends on the device, operating system, installed assets and the task. Generation runs locally with no automatic cloud fallback. Downloading a model contacts its hosting provider, including Hugging Face, with ordinary network information such as your IP address and the asset requested; it does not send your documents or conversation. Downloads are explicit and integrity checked. Apple may download its own system assets.
Storage and control
The app has no account, advertising or app-managed cloud synchronization. Saved content and preferences belong to this app's local storage. You can remove saved items in the app; deleting the app removes its app data, subject to operating-system backups. Manage any retained backups separately. Exporting or sharing creates a copy with the recipient you choose. This policy describes the current development build; features may change before release.
Third-party services
Third-party downloads, websites, and Apple platform services have their own privacy practices. Their requests may include ordinary network information such as your IP address and the requested resource. See Apple's explanation of device backups.
Changes to this policy
Features and platform availability can change between releases. The current version of this policy is published on this page.
