Documents and imports

PDFs, DRM-free EPUBs, text and selected images are copied into the app's own library. Text extraction, PDF previews, cover extraction and optical character recognition run locally. Camera scanning requests camera access only for a scan. The app retains source locations so you can inspect the original passage. Library files and imported originals are excluded from device backups in the current build.

Article links

Fetching an article is an explicit action. The app requests the URL and follows permitted redirects through an ephemeral, cookie-free session. The website and any redirect destination receive the requested URL and normal network information, including your IP address. Imported page text is extracted without running website scripts or loading page subresources. Pasting a URL alone does not fetch it.

Read aloud and optional voices

You can choose installed Apple voices or optional Supertonic natural voices. Downloading natural voices is an explicit action after reviewing their license; it contacts Hugging Face and its file-delivery hosts with normal network information, including your IP address and the requested files. After the download, speech generation runs on this device. Document text, article text and practice responses are not uploaded to a speech service. If a natural voice is unavailable, the app reports the problem; using an Apple voice is an explicit choice rather than an automatic substitution. Voice selection is stored locally, and downloaded voices can be removed in settings. Voice and language availability varies.

Listening and Safari sharing

Reading positions, bookmarks, voice selection and playback preferences stay local. Narration runs locally using the voice you select. The Safari extension shares a private inbox only with Reader. Shared text or URLs wait for review in the app; article requests are not made automatically. Saving or discarding an inbox item removes that queued copy.

Storage and control

The app has no account, advertising or app-managed cloud synchronization. Saved content and preferences belong to this app's local storage. You can remove saved items in the app; deleting the app removes its app data, subject to operating-system backups. Manage any retained backups separately. Exporting or sharing creates a copy with the recipient you choose. This policy describes the current development build; features may change before release.

Third-party services

Third-party downloads, websites, and Apple platform services have their own privacy practices. Their requests may include ordinary network information such as your IP address and the requested resource. See Apple's explanation of device backups.

Changes to this policy

Features and platform availability can change between releases. The current version of this policy is published on this page.
